A single mother with a restraining order against her abusive husband was denied KidCare because she was unable to prove she had full custody of the child, and unable to submit other requested documentation. After giving up on the Medical system she met a CHW who provided basic health education and also referred her to a Health Navigator. The Health Navigator assisted the client to reapply and within a few weeks she received approval for KidCare.
CHW Carol
CHW Carol encountered a woman in her forties during her outreach at the Caleb Center, a community health center in Liberty City. Carol found her at a park across the street from the center. After speaking with this woman for about 20 minutes Carol found out that the woman was in need of services. She had been recently laid off and was suffering from a disability. She had no health insurance and did not know where to turn for assistance. Due to her loss of employment she was having difficulty paying her rent and electric bill. Carol quickly connected this woman to the Community Action Agency in her area that assisted her with her rent and electric bill. She then referred the client to health navigator Ruth Garo who was able to get her to see a doctor. Through the clients will and her relationship with Carol she is now employed part time and is getting the medical attention she needs.
